Towing in Maumee, Ohio

Maumee is where three highways meet: I-475/US-23, the Ohio Turnpike and the US-24 freeway. Each one is handled differently when a car breaks down, so the first job is knowing which road you are on, or which store lot or business park you are in.

Maumee is about 8 miles southwest of downtown Toledo, across the Maumee River from Perrysburg. Updated .

Need a tow in Maumee?

Call and your request goes to an independent towing or roadside provider that serves Maumee. Give your exact spot: an I-475 exit number (4, 5 or 6), a store at The Shops at Fallen Timbers, or a street address. If you are on the Ohio Turnpike near Exit 59, call #677 instead; only Turnpike contract garages may tow a disabled car off the Turnpike.

Main roads in and around Maumee

  • Ohio Turnpike (I-80/I-90)

  • 24

    US-24 Anthony Wayne Trail

I-475, the Turnpike or US-24: which one are you on?

Three highways meet around Maumee, and the answer changes who can come for your car.

  • 475 I-475/US-23 has three Maumee exits: 4, 5 and 6. It is an ordinary interstate, so any local provider can be sent to the shoulder.
  • The Ohio Turnpike has one Maumee interchange, Exit 59 at US-20. It is a toll road with its own towing rule (below).
  • 24 US-24 is a freeway until it reaches I-475 at Exit 4. After that it becomes the Anthony Wayne Trail, a surface street that runs through Maumee into Toledo.

I-475 crosses the Turnpike with no ramps between them. To get from one to the other, drivers leave I-475 at Exit 6 and follow Dussel Dr to US-20. So if you broke down near that crossing and never entered the Turnpike at an interchange, you are on I-475.

Describing your spot in Maumee

On a highway or in a big lot, a landmark beats a guess at the address:

  • Exit numbers: I-475 exits 4 (US-24), 5 (US-20A) and 6 (Dussel Dr), and Turnpike Exit 59.
  • Fallen Timbers Battlefield (4949 Jerome Rd) is bounded by I-475 and US-24, a useful reference if you stop on either road near Exit 4.
  • Arrowhead Park has its entrance at the I-475/Dussel Dr interchange.
  • Side Cut Metropark is known for its old canal locks.
  • The river: the Maumee forms the city’s southeast border. On Conant St, say whether you are still in Maumee or have crossed into Perrysburg.

Monclova Township lies to the west and Springfield Township to the northwest, so a spot just past the city line may be in a township. Give the street and the nearest crossroad and the dispatcher can work out the rest.

Construction on I-475

ODOT’s $102 million I-475 project rebuilt Exit 5 at US-20A as a diverging diamond, which opened on August 4, 2025, and widened I-475 to three lanes each way between US-24 and Airport Hwy (reported in September 2025). If you stop at Exit 5, say which road you were on and which way you were heading. Work zones change, so check OHGO for current lanes and closures.

If you’re on the Turnpike near Exit 59

The Turnpike is the one road around Maumee where you can’t choose the tow company. Call #677. A passenger car that must be towed or pushed off is taken to the nearest exit by an official Turnpike contract garage, and passengers may not ride in the car while it is being towed (OAC 5537-3-01). The Turnpike breakdown guide explains what happens next.

What to have ready

  • The road, your direction and the last exit, or the store and lot section
  • Year, make and model, and whether it is AWD or electric (a flatbed may be needed)
  • Whether it starts, rolls and steers, and whether you have the keys
  • Where it is going, with an address
  • A phone number the driver can reach you on

Then call (419) 329-4502 or send a request. Your request goes to an independent provider serving Maumee, who calls you back; ask for the total price before the car is hooked up.

Towing in Maumee: common questions

Can I get a tow from The Shops at Fallen Timbers?

Yes. Give the store you parked near and the section of the lot; the center's address is 3100 Main St, Maumee. If the car only needs a jump start or lockout help, say so, because that is a roadside call rather than a tow.

Who handles a breakdown on the Turnpike near Maumee?

On the Ohio Turnpike, including around Exit 59, call #677. A passenger car that has to be towed is moved to the nearest exit by an official Turnpike contract garage (OAC 5537-3-01), so no outside tow company can be sent onto the Turnpike for you. Our Turnpike breakdown guide covers the steps.

I stopped on I-475 where it crosses the Turnpike. Which road am I on?

There are no ramps between the two highways where they cross, so if you got on I-475 and stayed on it, you are still on I-475. Tell the dispatcher your direction and the last exit you passed, such as Exit 5 (US-20A) or Exit 6 (Dussel Dr). Any local provider can be sent to an I-475 shoulder.

Which police department handles a crash in Maumee?

Call 911 if anyone is hurt or a vehicle is blocking traffic. Inside the city the local agency is the Maumee Police Division at 109 E. Dudley St; on the Turnpike, #677 reaches the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Our accident guide covers what to do at the scene.

Can a tow from Maumee go across the river to a shop in Perrysburg or Toledo?

Usually, yes. Tell the dispatcher the destination address, whether it is across the Fort Meigs Memorial Bridge in Perrysburg or north into Toledo. Distance is one of the biggest factors in the price, so ask for the total before the car is loaded.
